All painting is done in Painter using fill layers. Because of this, all I have to do is mask out sections of my mesh to create new color schemes.

Using Substance Designer, I made the base painted layer. I knew I was going to do a lot of masking and layering in Substance Painter, so I kept the texture fairly simple.

Fire Hydrant

My goal here was to create a hard-surface hero asset which was simple but highly realistic, with a poly count appropriate for its significance. I created the model with Designer for procedural textures, Zbrush to sculpt edge-wear, and Painter for generators, masking, and baking.
